About Papuri!:

Filipino artistic expression + Christian faith + KBP requirement +   musically-gifted individuals = PAPURI!

The 1970’s marked the period of westernization of Philippine music and Christianity with the proliferation of international singing groups, English hymns and Gospel songs.

To curb the looming foreign takeover of the Philippine music scene, the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) issued a directive to all radio networks to air Original Pilipino music beginning in 1977.  Far East Broadcasting Company initially complied with the KBP ruling by playing Filipino adaptations of Gospel songs. But because of the scarcity of materials, it was quickly axed. Evidently, something more Filipino was needed.

Enter FEBC’s Hymnody Project in 1978. With American missionary Dr. Gordon England at the helm, it began developing music that was truly Christian and uniquely Filipino. Together with 15 young men and women involved in the music ministry, Dr. England started the first all-Filipino original Christian music project. Sixteen songs were selected. Some were already known and widely used in churches while some were freshly written.

While meditating on the first chapter of Ephesians, Mr. Efren Pallorina, then 702 DZAS station manager, was able to coin the name PAPURI!, the Tagalog word for praise, for the project. He also developed the concept of three C’s of putting the project together as a bundle—producing a cassette album, publishing a chordbook and mounting a live concert.

The first PAPURI! concert was held at the jampacked Philamlife Theater on UN Avenue, Manila on October 26, 1979. From then on, PAPURI! was positioned as FEBC’s music arm and a handmaid of the Church on the air and in public.

Over the years, the original three Cs of PAPURI!—cassette, chordbook, concert—have  expanded to include another C, church promotions, whose purpose is to introduce and encourage the use of original Pilipino music in their worship, fellowship and evangelism programs.

This daily devotional steers you through the fiery challenge of developing a strong, committed marriage in a world that threatens to burn it to the ground.

The Love Dare personally leads you through daily devotionals, records your thoughts and experiences, and ends each day daring you to perform a simple act of love for your spouse. This 40-Day journey equips you to melt hardened, separated hearts into an enduring love that can withstand the flames of fear, pride and temptation. The Love Dare book will help you reinforce and enrich your marriage, earn back a love you thought was lost, and hear more about the One who not only designed unconditional, sacrificial love—He illustrated it.

In a world that attacks, devalues, and redefines relationships every day, learn how to rescue and protect your marriage from the firestorm. Take The Love Dare and FIREPROOF your relationship.

In FIREPROOF, The Love Dare covers the topics of relationship parasites (addictions like pornography and gambling) and unconditional love. The Love Dare devotional book expands and extends the topics addressed in the film’s plot to include such vital issues as:

* Why Marriage? Explore the blessings and challenges of godly marriage.
* Contract or Covenant? Examine the difference between the world’s design for marriage and God’s original intention.
* Clean Fighting. Learn how to fight the fires of conflict effectively and respectfully.
* Leading Your Heart, Instead of Vice Versa. Practice choosing love when it isn’t your instinctive response.

Passion Manila 2010

Passion believes in university students and in the “university moment,” that window of life where many young people forge their identity and set the trajectory of their lives. And we believe these students are uniquely poised to shape the future and help achieve a more hopeful outcome for humanity.

As well, we believe in cities, massive urban centers that not only provide the best opportunity for the Gospel to impact culture, but house the greatest concentration of university students on the planet. For many, the great global cities are only about commerce, industry, political might, fashion, history and design. Yet, the leading urban centers of the world are also “university towns,” places like NYC, Los Angeles, London, and Kyiv, cities where more than one million university students call home.

Thus, in 2010 Passion will be returning to seven cities, hosting gatherings for university-aged young people in Kyiv, London, São Paulo, Vancouver, Manila, Tokyo and Hong Kong. While we would love to revisit all seventeen cities from 2008, we are excited to be back with friends in these seven nations, inspiring students to love Jesus and to live to make Him famous in this generation.

There’s no doubt our message is loudest when Believers are united, and best received when our words turn into action to touch the world in Jesus’ name. So join us in the city nearest you and, in the mean time, help spread the word.

The wave is growing into a global awakening. Join the movement for His renown.

PASSION MANILA is happening on:

Date: May 25, 2010, Tuesday

Time: 7.30 pm (event will start on time)
Ticket Price: P200 only!!
